It surely stays tied! I replaced cotton lacing in my Keen Presidio leather oxfords and found them to be a bit stif-reduced the ease of lacing itself. I will be back for a second pair of laces for my other Presidios. I think a child may find them too stiff to comfortably tie at first. FYI Make sure to measure old laces first and get the best match, rather than choosing length based on the number of eyelets.
